Jaguar Sun’s Chris Minielly and Ontario singer-songwriter Jesse Maranger met by chance during the lunch break of a workplace health and safety meeting. After connecting over shared musical tastes and a passion for producing music at home, the pair began creating songs inspired by the music of Frightened Rabbit and The National.
When the pandemic hit, the inability to connect in-person pushed the two to work from afar on a collaborative EP that brings together the dreaminess of Jaguar Sun’s indie-pop with the intimacy of Jesse Maranger’s alt-folk songs. Both artists perform on all of the tracks and the result is a cohesive EP that ruminates on the dance between egotism and love.
“I think working on Blooms pushed us both into new territory musically. Not only did it inspire us to find new sounds and textures, but the restrictions of creating together in the midst of a pandemic added a layer of complexity that pushed us to innovate in ways we had never done before.”
